Late Artist Ed Paschke Named 2008 'Creator of the Year'

CHICAGO, July 25 PRNewswire — The Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago (IPLAC) recently named the late artist, Ed Paschke, as its 2008 "Creator of the Year" at the organization's Annual Meeting which was held at the University Club, Chicago. Marc Paschke, Mr. Paschke's son, accepted the award on behalf of Mr. Paschke's family and the Ed Paschke Foundation.

"I think my father would have truly enjoyed receiving this award because it's not simply about a single work," said Marc Paschke, son of the late artist. "It's not about a single medium such as painting. Rather, it is about the idea of 'creating' — about making something from nothing by selectively choosing from all of the information being fired at you daily. Most of all, it's about making a recognizable impact in our over-saturated world."

The weekend after he died in November 2004, the cover of a prominent newspaper declared that Ed Paschke was "the best artist Chicago has ever produced." Born and raised in Chicago, Paschke was both a graduate of the School of the Art Institute and a professor of art at Northwestern University. He established himself as one of the most successful Chicago artists during his own lifetime through a prolific production of work that has been exhibited in the most prestigious museums in the world.

Tony Jones, president of the School of the Art Institute, spoke about Mr. Paschke, his work and his importance to Chicago.

"To be honored by the segment of the legal community that is most responsible for protecting those people who create in this city that he loved is indeed a great honor to Ed Paschke's memory," said Marc Paschke.

The mission of the Ed Paschke Foundation is to research, document, protect and share Ed Paschke's art and creative legacy. The foundation's main goal is to bring the artwork of Ed Paschke to the public through exhibitions, publications, and multi-media forums including film, video and the Internet. The foundation's long range plans include the creation of an Ed Paschke Art Center that would provide a centralized location with a permanent collection of artwork, physical archives, research and resource materials, and a media center in an effort to provide a place for interested individuals to learn about and appreciate Ed Paschke the artist, the educator and the person.
