McHugh Completes One, Begins Two New Kinzie Buildings for Fifield Cos.
McHugh has completed the Echelon, a 39-story luxury rental building at 353 N. Desplaines Ave. for The Fifield Companies, developers of Kinzie Station. The Echelon was designed by architects Pappageorge/Haymes Ltd. and features 350 apartments ranging from 573 to 1,111 square feet in size. The building includes four levels of parking, a landscaped terrace with outdoor pool, business center, media room, game room and library.
Meanwhile, McHugh has begun construction of two additional high-rise apartment towers, the Alta and Cirrus, at Kinzie and Jefferson streets, along with a one-acre city park. Also developed by Fifield Companies and designed by Pappageorge/Haymes, the two-tower complex is scheduled for completion in 2010. The Alta will feature 41 stories and 428 apartments; the Cirrus will feature 37 stories and 420 apartments. They will be linked by an 8-story base with 12,000 square feet of retail space and a 700-space parking garage.
The park, slated for completion at the end of July, will be accessible to handicapped patrons and include play areas for children and pets.
Both buildings will offer 10 to 13 units per floor, ranging from studio to two-bedroom apartments, along with larger penthouse units. Amenities will include more than a half acre of landscaped terrace atop the base with a pool, fire pits and grills; a business center, library and 20-seat big-screen theatre room. Other features include a fitness center and indoor sport court; lounge with game room; and party room.
The Alta and Cirrus will be LEED certified by the U.S. Green Building Council as sustainably designed and constructed. Green features include high efficiency mechanical systems, a green roof, carpeting made with recycled fibers; low VOC paint, and recycled building materials.
