NSTA Press Releases Exemplary Methodology Text for Science Educators
ARLINGTON, Va., July 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Ideal for college professors, pre-service teachers, practicing teachers, and administrators alike, Readings in Science Methods, K-8 offers insights on how to effectively teach science, refreshes what you already know, and generates ideas for new approaches.
This generously sized compendium of articles is drawn from NSTA's middle and elementary level journals, Science Scope and Science and Children, and seamlessly blends theory, research, and examples of best practices. Editor Eric Brunsell teaches his own methods course using these same articles, which, he says, convey "the voice of the classroom teacher."
Brunsell has carefully organized the articles into five sections: The Nature of Science and Science Inquiry; Teaching Science; Science for All; Science Teaching Toolbox; and Teaching Content in Life and Environmental Science, Physical Science, and Earth and Space Science. Each section is preceded by its own insightful introduction and "action steps" to further learning.
About the Editor
Eric Brunsell is an assistant professor of science education at the University of Wisconsin—La Crosse, where he teaches elementary, middle, and secondary level science methods courses and collaborates with content faculty and classroom teachers on the development of an immersive STEM Professional Development School. He is also an adjunct faculty member in Montana State University's MS Science Education program, where he teaches assessment, action research, and astronomy courses.
