Charter Bank Mortgage Insurance is One of New Mexico's Best Employers

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., July 3 PRNewswire — Charter employees had a tough decision to make two Saturdays ago. With two company sponsored charity events taking place, they had to choose between barbecuing while cleaning up the Bosque and braving the mud to play volleyball in order to help raise over $300,000 for the Carrie Tingly Children's Hospital.

Community involvement is commonplace at Charter, currently planning a blood drive, raising money for United Way through a "Cross the Line" T-Shirt campaign, and sharing its 283 employees with charities as varied as the Special Olympics and Pick of the Pound Animal Rescue.

Later this year, Charter employees and their friends and family will help the Albuquerque homeless by volunteering at Habitat for Humanity and the Roadrunner Food Bank.

Charter gives back to its employees as well, aside from offering a full benefit plan, Charter holds twice annual company events that will include a huge picnic at an Isotopes game and a holiday party this year. Charter also contributes to the health of its employees with frequent wellness programs that have included free cholesterol screenings, diet analysis and nutrition classes, corporate gym memberships, and free flu shots.

Perhaps most influential of its community programs is Charter's intern program. Thirteen interns are hired every summer and trained in various aspects of the business, from human resources, insurance, banking, and mortgage to marketing, advertising, and graphic design.

Besides community involvement, training Albuquerque's upcoming workforce, and supporting employees' selected charities, Charter simply treats their workforce in a way conducive to a happy workplace. "Charter has given me a chance to find what I wanted to do in the company," said Charter employee John Varoz. "The management cares about their employees and truly wants them to succeed."
