CSPI to Call for Emergency Regulation for Produce Traceability
NEWS CONFERENCE TOMORROW (THURSDAY) 10:00 A.M.
WASHINGTON, July 2 PRNewswire-USNewswire — Food safety advocates will call on the FDA to implement emergency regulation that would require growers and packers of fruits and vegetables to adopt existing technology that would more easily allow those products to be traced back to their farm of origin and other stops along the supply chain. CSPI will reiterate its call for growers to implement written food safety plans. These plans would help to prevent future outbreaks, and improved traceability would allow investigators to more quickly locate the source of outbreaks of foodborne illness.
