Gift to the City and State Gives More: Admission Free on Millennium Gate Opening Weekend

ATLANTA, July 1 PRNewswire — The Millennium Gate will officially open its doors Friday, July 4, 2008. Visitors on July 4, 5 and 6 will be given free admission to the museum housed within.

The July 4 festivities, presented by AIG Global Real Estate, co-developer of Atlantic Station, will begin at 11:00 a.m. with music and entertainment. A 12:30 p.m. parade through Atlantic Station ending at the foot of The Millennium Gate will be immediately followed by a dedication ceremony. At 2:00 p.m. the Gate will officially open its doors to the public.

Families are encouraged to come join in what is sure to be a fun-filled day of free celebration. Entertainment, including costumed characters, daytime fireworks and music, will be provided for those in attendance. Food will be available for purchase from onsite vendors; beverages will be supplied, courtesy of Coca-Cola.

The Millennium Gate's construction was funded through private contributions and is a valuable gift to the citizens of Atlanta and Atlantic Station. The 82-foot monument houses a 12,000 square-foot museum featuring multiple galleries that contain an abundance of historical information paying tribute to Georgia history and the contributions of many of Atlanta's pioneer families.

"This opening will serve not only as a day to celebrate our nation's history, but also that of our great city and state," said Rodney Cook, founder and president of the National Monuments Foundation. "The exhibits housed within the Gate convey the transformation of Atlanta from a sleepy little stop on the rail line, to the thriving Southern capitol we know today."
