'Marin/Scapes 2008: Creating a Landscape of Hope'

MARIN COUNTY, Calif., June 24 PRNewswire — The only annual fine art show and benefit that exclusively features the life and landscape of Marin is "Marin/Scapes: Creating a Landscape of Hope." Now in its 20th year, this exhibit and sale offers art by 60 prominent artists. Media include oils, watercolors, photography, etchings, woodcuts and sculptures. Subjects range from popular landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge and Frank Lloyd Wright's Marin Civic Center, to spectacular landscapes, waterscapes, urban scenes, figurative works and renditions of local fauna and flora.

Ben Farnham, a widely recognized watercolorist from Sausalito, painted Napa Street Pier, Sausalito for this year's show poster. He is actively involved in prominent artists groups such as the California Watercolor Association, The Marin Society of Artists, and the Marin Watercolor Society.

"There are a million places to paint in Marin and my happiest day is to take my watercolors and walk down the street to paint the wonderful things I see all around me," says Farnham.

During the three-day Marin/Scapes Art Exhibit and Sale artists will be on hand to demonstrate techniques and discuss their work with visitors. Adding to the festive atmosphere, a selection of fine wines, specialty beverages, cheese, crackers and fruit will be offered at the historic and beautiful Escalle Winery. Admission, which includes refreshments, is only $15 per person.

An elegant Opening Night Gala on Tuesday, July 1, will feature delectable wine and food selections donated by Marin's top restaurants and caterers ($125/pp).

Proceeds from Marin/Scapes support local artists as well as Buckelew Employment Services (BES). Over twenty years, the Marin/Scapes event has raised more than $1.5 million for Buckelew Programs, which was established in 1971 to serve adults with mental illness and now serves over 1,000 clients in Marin, Sonoma and Napa. Funds raised through Marin/Scapes help the agency be more flexible and responsive to clients needs, especially in the area of job training and placement.
