Outdoor Channel's 'This Land is Your Land Challenge' at NCTA Cable Show Raises $10,000 for Animal Rescue

TEMECULA, Calif., June 18 PRNewswire-FirstCall — Outdoor Channel, America's Leader in Outdoor TV, announced today that the network raised $10,000 to support Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO) as a result of NCTA Cable Show attendee participation in the "This Land is Your Land Challenge". For every visitor to the network's booth who attempted to reel in a bass or snag a buck on the popular arcade games Bass Simulator and Big Buck Hunter, Outdoor Channel donated 25 dollars to ARNO.

"We're thrilled with the outcome of this promotion. Outdoor Channel really came through for ARNO. This donation will have a big impact on our cause as 100 percent of the funds will go towards the animals' care," said Charlotte Bass, executive director of ARNO.

Also at stake were two deluxe HD prize packs that included a 52" Sony Bravia XBR HDTV and Blu-Ray Player for the highest scorers on each arcade game. Doug Hill, production manager at Cox Media in Baton Rouge, LA, was crowned the best buck hunter at The Cable Show. The master bass fisherman was Glenn Goldsmith, senior director, programming at Mediacom in Middletown, NY.

"I live in Baton Rouge and love saltwater fishing, so when I saw the Outdoor Channel booth at The Cable Show in New Orleans, I knew I had to check it out. I'm a big fan of Outdoor Channel programming," said Hill. "It was great that by participating in the challenge a donation was made to ARNO. I'm thankful for the fantastic prizes and I look forward to watching more great shows on Outdoor Channel."

ARNO is an organization created for and dedicated to the rescue and aid of homeless animals, responding to the immediate needs of animals in need of medical care or who have been neglected, abused and deprived of love. The organization also promotes the foster, adoption and reunion of pets with caretakers, as well as spaying and neutering.

ARNO estimates that there are still at least 10,000 abandoned or homeless pets wandering the streets of New Orleans. Additionally, there are approximately 40,000 homeless strays in Orleans Parish alone in need of food, water and medical attention. The organization currently provides a controlled food, water and trapping program and facilitates reunions or adoptions with lost pets, among other programs.
