AVG Free Downloaded From CNET Download.com Over Five Million Times in a Single Week
"It's good that users are learning they need more than just anti-virus to be safe on the Internet today," says Karel Obluk, chief technology officer at AVG Technologies. "AVG Free also protects against many drive-by downloads and other Web 2.0 threats by giving real-time safety ratings to all search results obtained through Google, MSN, and Yahoo.
"While we provide AVG Free because we believe everyone has a right to basic Internet security, users should remember that the free product does not protect against the full range of today's web-borne threats. For complete protection, users should consider AVG's commercial products."
AVG Free provides core protection against viruses and spyware, together with the safe-searching component of the company's patent-pending LinkScanner(R) technology, incorporated into the new AVG Security Toolbar. The Free product does not include the proactive safe-surfing of the full LinkScanner module that is included in the commercial AVG products, nor the extended protection against hackers, keyloggers, spam, phishing attacks, and malicious file downloads. Support is provided through a free peer forum hosted by AVG Technologies.
Commercial AVG products are available through an extensive network of distributors, resellers, and business partners as well as through many online stores and the company's website at http://www.avg.com. With the commercial product range, users receive free program updates and 24/7 technical support for the full duration of the license.
