Julie Roberts Joins MADD National President to Support Walk Like MADD and Ignition Interlocks in Nashville

408 People Killed in Tennessee Due to Drunk Driving; Nashville Leaders Challenged to Sign the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving Pledge

NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The following was released by Mothers Against Drunk Driving:

WHAT: Walk Like MADD (formerly known as Strides for Change), the signature walk of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, is a fun, community-driven 5K event that raises funds and saves lives. In its third year, the walk will be led by country music star Julie Roberts. Every step taken and every dollar raised supports MADD's Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving, which calls for alcohol ignition interlocks for all drunk drivers and sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols.

WHEN: Saturday, June 21, 2008

Press Conference begins at 9:00 a.m.

Walk begins at 9:30 a.m.

Ignition interlock demonstrations will be available throughout the morning.

WHY:MADD served 46,000 victims/survivors in 2007 and aims to eliminate drunk driving so there are no more victims. Drunk driving is the nation's most frequently committed violent crime. In 2006, Tennessee saw an 8.5 percent increase in the number of drunk driving fatalities on our state's roadways. Nationally, nearly 13,500 people were killed in crashes where the driver had a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher — countless others were injured.
