MOM's - My Organic Market Seafood Selection Goes 100% Sustainable
MOM's is taking a leadership position once again in the growing movement among grocery stores that are increasing their commitment to being stewards of the environment. MOM's believes urgent action is necessary — according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 75% of the world's fisheries are depleted, over-fished, or at full capacity. Commonly used destructive fishing practices also harm natural habitats and accidentally catch non-target species such as sea turtles and dolphins. MOM's believes that by promoting eco-friendly seafood purchases, fishermen will be encouraged to switch to sustainable fishing methods.

MOM's new seafood labels have a green stripe to convey that the item is sustainable, as well as where and how it was caught or farmed. To be labeled green, the seafood was caught or farmed using methods that maintain healthy populations, sustain a long-term supply of fish, and have minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystem. A Low Mercury List posted on the front of the seafood case helps consumers purchase seafood with confidence, identifying fish and shellfish that are the lowest in mercury and PCBs in addition to having the highest sustainability ranking of green.
