Mulkey Milestones: — In 1993, the firm, then Barbara H. Mulkey Engineering, Inc. (BHME), landed two key projects to jump-start its presence in North Carolina. The widening of U.S. 17 in Onslow County was the first project for which BHME was selected as prime consultant. The I-85 widening project in Durham County brought the firm into the field of construction engineering and inspection. — By 1997, the firm had grown substantially and formed a survey group. This group provided internal support on design projects and grew to be a major source of revenue. 1997 also marked the expansion of BHME into the Charlotte market. — The company's 10-year anniversary in 2003 included a new corporate name, Mulkey Engineers & Consultants. At that time, the company employed 185 staff members in two states, a huge jump from six employees in 1993. — In 2005, Mulkey expanded into Florida by opening the Jacksonville office, giving the company six offices located throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
