Singapore Charity Golf Tournament to Support Blind Babies Foundation

SAN FRANCISCO, May 9 PRNewswire — The Singapore America Business Association (SABA) of Northern California and the Singapore Consulate General in San Francisco will jointly host the 2008 Singapore Charity Golf Tournament to benefit Blind Babies Foundation (BBF) on Saturday, May 10 at the Bridges Golf Club in San Ramon, California. BBF is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping infants and children who are blind to develop skills that will allow them to function independently in life.

The inaugural tournament in 2007 raised over $21,000 for BBF. We expect to exceed that amount this year. Net proceeds from the tournament will support, in particular, BBF's "Off to a Good Start" program, which provides home visits, education, and access to medical services for over 500 children and their families per year in California.

We expect more than 100 players on tournament day. Funds raised through hole-in-one competitions at all 4 Par 3's, a raffle draw and a dinner auction, will also be donated to BBF.

"SABA believes strongly in giving back to our community. We are thrilled to be able to contribute to an organization that provides such an important service to vision-impaired children, and we are very thankful to our sponsors for donating their time and resources," said SABA president Dr. Peng-Huat Ang.

"As a member of the Bay Area community, the Singapore Consulate General in San Francisco is honored to play a part in giving back to this place we call home. The strong support we have received underscores not only the deep spirit of caring in this community but also the warm and friendly ties that exist between Singapore and the United States and their peoples," said Consul General Jee See Heng.

"The Blind Babies Foundation is very honored that SABA and the Singapore Consulate General are jointly hosting this event to benefit our organization, and we, as well as the children and families we serve, are deeply grateful for their continued support." said Julie Bernas-Pierce, Executive Director of the Blind Babies Foundation.

About the Blind Babies Foundation

Blind Babies Foundation (BBF) has been providing critical early intervention and education services to infants and preschoolers who are blind or visually impaired for more than 58 years. Family-centered services are provided in the home environment and encourage every child's development to the fullest degree possible with careful attention to their individual abilities and needs. These intensive services can help to stimulate and enhance available vision, often preventing a further decline of visual acuity or total vision loss. As soon as a visual impairment is detected, BBF is there to help families move from crisis to understanding and self-sufficiency. For more information, please visit http://www.blindbabies.org.
