Raising the Bar on MonoPropyleneGlycol USP/EP

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, May 8 PRNewswire — LyondellBasell Industries has completed Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification of its management systems at its plants in Fos-sur-Mer, France, and Botlek, The Netherlands, where MonoPropyleneGlycol USP/EP (MPG-USP/EP) is produced.

HACCP is a certifiable management system that focuses on preventing food safety hazards. The comprehensive nature of the system covers the entire process from raw material procurement, manufacturing, storage, handling and distribution to consumption of the finished product. "The proprietary program of Operational Excellence in practice at our manufacturing sites has proven a solid starting point for HACCP certification." states Patrick Quarles, Senior Vice President Propylene Oxide & Derivatives, Chemicals at LyondellBasell.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized the importance of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points system for prevention of foodborne diseases for more than 20 years and has played an important role in its development, harmonization and implementation. The United Nations "Codex Alimentarius", U.S. Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture, European Union, Australia, Japan, Canada and New Zealand all endorse the HACCP system.

MonoPropylene Glycol USP/EP is used as a humectant and emulsifier in the production of food additives, personal care products and other everyday items. It is also used as an excipient (inactive ingredient) in pharmaceutical products.
