Comair Reduces Fuel Burn by Switching to Cost Index Optimization
PPAS (Pilots Performance Advisory System) uses mathematical processes to provide pilots with information on optimal speeds and altitudes during specific temperatures and wind conditions. Comair's positive results with PPAS have led the airline to sign an agreement with AASI to equip its 115 regional jets with the system.
"We are very pleased that Comair chose PPAS to be part of their strategy to enhance safety and decrease costs," said Captain
PPAS supports aircraft that are not otherwise equipped with a cost index optimization solution. PPAS is customized with data from Comair's operation and fleet, meaning the system can constantly compute the optimum combination of speed, vertical profile and power setting while identifying and respecting individual aircraft performance limitations.
"Incorporating Cost Index flying has been a long-term goal for Comair and we are very excited with the benefits that PPAS provides," said Captain
