One D Receives Funding From Five Southeast Michigan Foundations
DETROIT, May 7 PRNewswire-USNewswire — One D, a group of six regional civic organizations working collaboratively to transform regional Detroit, announced today that funding has been received from all five of the leading Southeast Michigan foundations to support their efforts in aligning private, public and non-profit sectors toward five common priorities.
The unanimous show of support by the area's leading foundations was provided by the: Hudson-Webber Foundation, Kresge Foundation, Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, McGregor Fund and Skillman Foundation. The grants, totaling $810,000 over a three-year period, brings the total budget to $1.5 million with One D partner contributions. The grants have enabled One D to develop the infrastructure and metrics to track regional progress in achieving the five priorities which will allow the region to compete in a global economy.
According to Edsel B. Ford II, lead champion of One D, "Since our meetings with the Foundation community beginning at the Mackinac Policy Conference a year ago, we have been encouraged by their generous show of support and the importance they place on our success as a region."
"They have demonstrated that cooperation is central to the transformative process for our region, and that cross-jurisdictional problems demand cross-jurisdictional solutions. We are grateful to them."
The five priorities which form the framework of One D were gathered through a citizen input process which surveyed almost 10,000 individuals in the region. Five priorities wrapped around the banner of regional collaboration were identified and agreed upon, which are: economic prosperity, educational preparation, quality of life, race relations and regional transit.
Edsel B. Ford II will present the first One D Scorecard at the opening session of the 2008 Mackinac Policy Conference, to be held May 28-30, which will chart the progress toward the five regional priorities.
The group of six regional civic organizations which form One D are: The Cultural Alliance of Southeastern Michigan, The Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau, Detroit Regional Chamber, Detroit Renaissance, New Detroit, and United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
