Cuisine for a Cause Raises More Than $153,000 for 10 Local Charities
DETROIT, May 6 PRNewswire — Opus One restaurant, News/Talk 760 WJR and Ford Motor Company are pleased to announce that "Cuisine for a Cause," now in its second year, raised $153,206.17 for 10 local charities. The program continues to gain popularity, and this year's total realized an 80 percent increase in net profits from 2007.
"Cuisine for a Cause" is a charitable dining program created to raise funds for local non-profit organizations. The campaign's closing Celebratory Reception featured a six-station gourmet strolling supper, prepared exclusively for the event by Opus One. Attendees enjoyed a sampling of more than 60 premium wines specifically chosen to complement the sumptuous food selections. Guests concluded the evening by bidding on 11 one-of-a-kind luxury auction packages.
Proceeds from the "Cuisine for a Cause" are distributed to charities based on supporters dining at Opus One February 1 to April 19, the number of event tickets they sold to the Celebratory Reception and with the proceeds of their auction item. This year's top three recipients were Children's Hospital of Michigan at $20,944.20, Michigan Opera Theatre at $17,393.84 and Detroit Symphony Volunteer Council at $16,447.24.
Proceeds from the event will support ALS of Michigan, Inc. - Lou Gehrig's Disease, Children's Hospital of Michigan, Detroit Symphony Orchestra Volunteer Council, Forgotten Harvest, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit, Michigan Opera Theatre, The American Red Cross - Southeastern Michigan Chapter, The Children's Center, The Henry Ford Health System Josephine Ford Cancer Center and Think Detroit PAL. "We are proud to once again be partnered with WJR and Ford Motor Company to collectively help those in need right here in the Detroit area during challenging economic times in Michigan," said Jim Kokas, Owner of Opus One.
