Bestselling Teen Author Sean Covey to Publish His First '7 Habits' Book for Children with Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing

NEW YORK, May 1 PRNewswire — Simon & Schuster Books For Young Readers, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, has signed a deal to publish The 7 Habits of Happy Kids, the first picture book from Sean Covey in September 2008. Covey is the author of the multimillion copy best-selling The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, and The 6 Most Important Decisions You'll Ever Make: A Guide for Teens. The book will include illustrations by artist Stacy Curtis. The deal, which is for world rights, including audio, was negotiated by Rubin Pfeffer, Senior Vice-President and Publisher of Simon & Schuster Children's Trade Publishing, and Shannon Miser-Marven of Dupree/Miller & Associates.

The book's publication in September will also coincide with the launch of FranklinCovey's comprehensive solution for elementary schools, The Leader in Me(TM): Developing Leaders One Child at a Time Through Great Schools. The program will integrate timeless leadership principles into elementary school curriculum and cultures, providing students with practical character and life skills relevant for today's 21st century challenges. The process has proven to build children's self confidence and interpersonal skills, elevate student achievement, and reduce school-wide discipline problems. The Leader in Me program will include age-appropriate materials such as a Student Activity Guide, Annotated Teacher's Edition, Classroom Poster Set, and Interactive Online Activities based on The 7 Habits of Happy Kids cast of characters.

"I'm thrilled to have written this book not only for my kids but for children everywhere, and for their parents who are trying to teach them principles of effectiveness, which will influence and help them to lead happier lives as they grow and develop," said Sean Covey.

The Covey family has been a household name for years with more than 25 million books in print in over 40 different countries. The 7 Habits of Happy Kids introduces young readers to the popular Covey family "7 Habits" through an irresistible cast of characters and accessible stories that give parents the tools to help explain a useful life lesson. From being 'Proactive All the Way' to 'Sharpening Your Saw,' this kid-friendly book has a fully illustrated story to introduce each of The 7 Habits. Complete with a tip to parents from Sean, as well as discussion points and next steps at the end of each story, readers will follow the same adorable group of characters who live in 7 Oaks throughout all seven stories.

"I am so proud of my son, Sean, and the influence he has had on teens throughout the world with his two bestselling books. And now young children, at a very tender age, will come to know and live in accordance with the principles found within the 7 Habits, influencing not only their lives, but future generations to come," said Stephen Covey, bestselling author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness.

"The Covey family has inspired millions and we are ecstatic to work with Sean to bring The 7 Habits message to children," said Rubin Pfeffer. "Sean Covey has his finger on the pulse of today's youth and in The 7 Habits of Happy Kids, his kid-friendly voice and fun cast of characters will certainly inspire children to smile while they learn to become the best they can be."

Sean Covey lives in Alpine, Utah, with his wife, Rebecca, and their children. He works for FranklinCovey as vice president of innovation and product development. He graduated with honors from Brigham Young University with a degree in English and later earned his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He is a popular speaker to youth and adult groups.
