Lexmark names Volunteer of the Year, donates $5,000 to local nonprofit organization
Mayes received the award based on her extensive volunteer work for numerous nonprofit organizations in the Bluegrass community. She was specifically nominated for her work with the Paris Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). Mayes is a board member and spends many hours each week participating in adoption activities and finding homes for animals, including fostering pets until they are adopted. As part of the award, Lexmark has donated
Mayes is also a member of the Bluegrass Cycling Club where she volunteers with the Horsey Hundred bike ride, which raises money to purchase bikes for underprivileged children, and the MS-150 Bike the Bluegrass that benefits those who suffer from multiple sclerosis.
Mayes is a key organizer of the Georgetown Kite and Culture Festival, which is a family weekend event that celebrates cultural awareness and diversity. The festival attracted more than 8,200 people in 2007. Mayes also played the piano for patients at the Markey Cancer Center during the holiday season.

Lexmark launched the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2004 in conjunction with its Volunteer Time Off (VTO) Program. The Volunteer of the Year Award is designed to encourage and recognize volunteerism among Lexmark employees worldwide as part of the company's commitment to corporate citizenship.

The VTO Program provides time away from work for employees to volunteer. It allows Lexmark's U.S. full-time employees up to three days of paid time away from work annually to volunteer in their local community. Part-time employees receive up to one-and-a-half days annually.
