Scripps-Corbett Award Winners Unveiled

CINCINNATI, April 24 PRNewswire-FirstCall — The winners of the 2008 Scripps-Corbett Awards, the most-prestigious recognition of individuals and organizations that have made artistic or cultural contributions to the Greater Cincinnati area, have been announced by The E. W. Scripps Company.

Seven awards will be bestowed this year, encompassing the winners in five specific categories as well as two lifetime achievement honors.

This year's winners are: — Artist Award: Cincinnati Children's Choir, Ensemble-in-Residence at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music — Organization Award: Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park — Innovation Award: ballet tech cincinnati — Special Award - Arts Education: WOW: Writers of Outstanding Words — Supporter Award: Harry Fath — Lifetime Achievement Awards: Steven Monder and Jefferson James

The seven awards will be presented at the finale celebration for this year's Fine Arts Fund campaign. The public is invited to join in this gala, which will be held at the Cincinnati Art Museum on April 29 at 5:30 p.m. Interested arts enthusiasts should contact the Fine Arts Fund (513-871-2787) if they would like to attend.

"It's hard to imagine a more-distinguished gathering of artists and patrons than the recipients who will assemble for this year's Scripps-Corbett Awards," said Kenneth W. Lowe, president and chief executive officer of Scripps. "The civic enrichment represented by their talent and commitment is immeasurable, and we all prosper from their unique contributions to Cincinnati's cultural fabric."

The Scripps-Corbett Awards are named in honor of the late arts patrons Patricia and J. Ralph Corbett, who worked with two Scripps newspapers - The Cincinnati Post and The Kentucky Post - in launching the awards program in 1975.

The judges for the 2008 awards were Van Ackerman (Cincinnati Arts Association), Jeaunita Olowe (Bi-Okoto Drum & Dance Theater and School of African Cultures), John Vissman (Institute for Non-Profit Capacity at Northern Kentucky University), Jim Wiseman (Toyota) and Kathy Wade (Learning Through Art).
