C.D. Clarke Inaugurates Turks & Caicos Sporting Club at Ambergris Cay Guest Artist Program

AMBERGRIS CAY, Turks & Caicos, BWI, April 23 PRNewswire — Acclaimed sportsman artist, C.D. Clarke accepts the honor of being the first artist invited to capture the beauty of the pristine, private island of Ambergris Cay through the Turks & Caicos Sporting Club Guest Artist Program, which begins in May.

Turks & Caicos Sporting Club created the Guest Artist Program to capture the beauty of the Life, Well Played experience in abundance on the private island of Ambergris Cay. An avid fisherman and accomplished artist, Clarke travels the world carrying his art supplies on his back allowing him to paint on location. Be it standing knee deep in a bonefish flat or face to face with native Turks & Caicos rock iguanas, Clarke depicts the essence of the sporting world through his captivating oil paintings.

"C.D. comes to Ambergris with a wealth of knowledge on premier bonefishing and the picturesque environment and creatures that go hand in hand with the experience," says Fuzzy Davis, Turks & Caicos Sporting Club's Director of Outdoor Pursuits. "We are thrilled to have C.D. join us on Ambergris Cay and anticipate beautiful, pictorial recreations of the sporting life experience we pride as one of the best in the Caribbean."

Clarke first became familiar with DPS Sporting Club Development during one of his first bonefishing experiences at the DPS sister property, Deep Water Cay in The Bahamas. Beginning with a trip nearly 15 years ago, Clarke has created numerous paintings on the sporting club grounds developing an appreciation for the people, the culture and the ecology of The Bahamas in the process.

"My goal in the paintings that I will do at Turks & Caicos Sporting Club at Ambergris Cay will be to capture the bonefisherman's experience," says Clarke. "I'll be painting right out on the flats, capturing the colors, the textures, the light, the landscape — the action of it all. Ambergris Cay is such a unique, pristine place and I am honored to be invited to paint such an island treasure."

Clarke paints with a sportsman's understanding. His method of painting captures the light, color and feeling of the sporting scene in a personal, believable way. Along with recent works in the Caribbean, he has captured fishermen and hunters pursuing their passions in Scotland, Alaska, Chile, Zimbabwe, New Brunswick, Quebec, Montana, and Texas.

Working from watercolor sketches and photographs of the sportsmen and their equipment, Clarke accurately depicts the sporting scene in oil paintings further completed in his studio based in upstate Canandaigua, N.Y., under more controlled conditions. Turks & Caicos Sporting Club at Ambergris Cay is excited to welcome C.D. Clarke to the private island and learn how the local scenery, flora and fauna will inspire the artist in his quest to visually portray the beauty of Ambergris Cay's sporting life.
