California Micro Devices Establishes Phoenix Design Center; Will Broaden Protection Product Offering and Markets

MILPITAS, Calif., April 17 PRNewswire-FirstCall — California Micro Devices (Nasdaq: CAMD) today announced that it has established a design center in Phoenix, Arizona. The mission of the Phoenix Design Center is to develop advanced protection products for markets not currently served by CMD, including telecom infrastructure.

The new design center will be led by Dr. Sudhama Shastri, who recently joined CMD. Before joining CMD, Dr. Shastri held engineering management positions at ON Semiconductor as well as engineering management and technical positions at Motorola. Dr. Shastri holds a B.Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas.

In a related move, CMD also announced the promotion of Dr. Albert Gu to head its protection development activities in Milpitas aimed at high volume markets including mobile handsets and digital televisions. Prior to joining CMD in 2007, Dr. Gu held technical management positions at TriQuint and Global Communication Technology as well as technical positions at Motorola and Sandia Labs. Dr. Gu holds a B.S. degree from National Tsing-Hua University, an M.S. degree from the University of New Mexico and a Ph.D. from Kansas State University. Both Dr. Gu and Dr. Shastri report to Juergen Lutz, CMD engineering vice president.

Lutz noted that the new Phoenix Design Center represents a major new thrust for the company's protection R&D capabilities and enables it to tap into a large pool of talented and experienced engineers. "I'm delighted that Dr. Shastri has agreed to lead our Phoenix Design Center and to announce the well deserved promotion of Dr. Gu. Both gentlemen bring a wealth of experience and demonstrated leadership capability to their new roles."
