AIAA Honors Center for Space Standards & Innovation's Finkleman for 50 Years of Sustained Service to Aerospace

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., April 16 PRNewswire — Dr. David Finkleman, senior scientist for the Center for Space Standards & Innovation (CSSI) in Colorado Springs, has been recognized by The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) for 50 years of sustained contributions to the arts, sciences, and technology of aeronautics and astronautics. Finkleman's interest in aerospace was solidified following the launch of Sputnik in 1957, and he joined the Institute of Aeronautical Sciences (which later merged with the American Rocket Society to form the AIAA) as a teenager. He was elected a Fellow of the AIAA in 1989 for his work in aerodynamics, reentry gas dynamics, and radiative transfer. He has organized and chaired many AIAA committees and conferences in these areas.

Before joining CSSI — the research and educational outreach arm of Analytical Graphics, Inc. (AGI) — Finkleman was a member of the Senior Executive Service (SES) and served as director of analysis and chief technical officer for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, CO. He currently chairs the International Standards Organization Space Operations Working Group (TC20/SC14/WG3).
