AICPA and Accountemps to Award Five Student Scholarships

MENLO PARK, Calif., April 16 PRNewswire — The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the premier professional association for CPAs, and Accountemps, the world's first and largest temporary staffing service for accounting, finance and bookkeeping professionals, are accepting applications for the 2008-2009 AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship. Five individuals will each receive $2,500 to be used toward their tuition expenses.

Entrants must be AICPA student affiliate members majoring in accounting, finance or information systems and enrolled in a full-time graduate or undergraduate program. They must have completed the equivalent of at least 30 semester hours, including a minimum of six semester hours in accounting, and maintained a 3.0 grade point average.

"The AICPA's chief goal in sponsoring this award is to encourage promising students and help steer them toward a rewarding career in the accounting profession," said Dennis Reigle, AICPA director — academic and career development.

Andrew Denka, executive director of Accountemps, added, "Accountemps is proud to join the AICPA in honoring outstanding students and helping them further their academic pursuits as they prepare for their careers."

A committee comprised of AICPA and Accountemps representatives will determine the scholarship recipients — based on academic achievement, leadership, and future career interests in accounting and business — and notify them in August 2008.

Applications may be obtained by calling the AICPA at (919) 402-4014 or visiting http://ceae.aicpa.org/Resources/Scholarships+and+Awards/AICPA+Accountemps+Stud ent+Scholarship+Program.htm. The deadline for receipt of all materials, including official transcripts from undergraduate schools attended and two letters of recommendation, is May 1, 2008.
