DIEHL Deploys PGP Solution to Protect Intellectual Property

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 15 PRNewswire —PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise data protection, today announced that DIEHL Informatik GmbH, a subsidiary of the DIEHL group, has implemented the PGP(R) Encryption Platform to ensure secure communication exchanges with business partners. DIEHL worked with PGP(R) Silver Partner, help AG, to implement PGP Universal(TM) Gateway Email and PGP(R) Desktop Email, enabling the company to safeguard its intellectual property.

Founded more than 100 years ago, DIEHL is one of Germany's largest technology companies, with 10,200 employees in more than 40 independent business units. Because the company prides itself on innovation, protecting intellectual property such as its product research and development is critical. DIEHL also works with a wide variety of business partners, routinely exchanging confidential information via email. Although the company believed encrypting email was necessary to defend its data, their previous encryption solution did not meet the company's requirements and was a challenge for IT teams to support. Working with help AG, DIEHL replaced its legacy system with a comprehensive PGP(R) solution.

Harald Marz, IT systems consultant for DIEHL, said, "We had been using PGP(R) Desktop Email to encrypt email internally, so I was already comfortable with PGP(R) technology. Deploying PGP Universal Gateway Email has enabled us to move encryption to the gateway, which is far more scalable and easier to manage. We can easily communicate with business partners because the PGP encryption solution complies with industry standards. It also integrates with Lotus Notes and other existing software implementations, eliminating the costly, manual tasks of the previous encryption solution."

DIEHL's deployment of PGP technology was rapid and successful. PGP Universal Gateway Email automatically secures confidential email with proven PGP(R) encryption and digital signatures, based on centrally defined policy. The encryption is completely transparent to the user, and email is automatically encrypted to match recipients' encryption capabilities. The PGP(R) solution includes a keyserver that enables DIEHL to fully automate its key management by automatically generating one key per user, making it compatible with other standards-compliant solutions. In deploying the PGP applications, DIEHL has effectively introduced the PGP(R) Encryption Platform, the underlying framework that handles comprehensive policy enforcement, key management, recovery, and reporting services.
