UST Executives Walker and Tamaro Promoted to New Posts

STAMFORD, Conn., April 3, 2008 PRNewswire — UST Inc. (NYSE: UST) announced today that two of its executives, Todd A. Walker and Kenneth N. Tamaro, have been promoted and will take on additional responsibilities with the company. Walker, age 41, has been named vice president, government relations and public policy, while Tamaro, age 51, has been appointed treasurer for UST, in addition to his existing responsibilities as vice president, tax.

In assuming this additional role as treasurer, Ken Tamaro will help formulate the strategies allowing UST to capitalize on its strong financial position and cash flow."

As part of the company's succession planning efforts, Walker will take on increasing levels of responsibility for UST's government relations and public policy efforts over the next two years in anticipation of the retirement of Edward D. Kratovil, senior vice president.

Walker began his career with UST Public Affairs Inc. in 1992 in the company's state government relations department managing a multi-state region based in St. Paul, Minnesota, and then in Sacramento, California. Subsequently, he was named vice president, federal government relations, and assumed responsibility for federal and international government relations operations. He is based in the UST Public Affairs office located in Washington, D.C.

Walker serves on the board of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation and the board of the National Rifle Association of America. A native of San Angelo, Texas, Walker earned his bachelor's degree from Texas State University. He is a resident of McLean, Virginia.

As UST's new treasurer, Tamaro is responsible for the company's treasury functions, including cash management, credit and risk management.

Tamaro joined UST in 1995 as director, federal and international tax. He assumed additional responsibility as director of the entire tax function in 1998 and was named a senior director in 2004. Tamaro has been responsible for all aspects of the tax function in the company's corporate finance organization since being appointed vice president, tax in 2005 and was recently appointed acting treasurer as well.

Prior to joining UST, Tamaro served several years as senior tax attorney at Union Camp Corporation in Wayne, NJ. Previously, he held tax positions with Ernst & Whinney and Price Waterhouse. He earned his law degree from Seton Hall University and bachelor's degree in accounting, cum laude, from Farleigh Dickinson University. He is a resident of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.
