Stratford Cancels Parade of Swans on March 30

STRATFORD, ON, March 27 PRNewswire - For the first time in living memory, Stratford Ontario announces the cancellation of the annual spring release of the Swans scheduled to take place on March 30th at 2:00 pm.

As a result of an abnormally harsh winter, large areas of heavy ice and snow remain on the Avon River blocking the free-flow of water. Swans require open water for a healthy habitat without which their spring nesting may be compromised. Therefore, to protect the swans, the planned ceremonial release on March 30th will not take place.

The swans will be released as soon as the conditions on the Avon River improve and the health of the swans can be assured.

The public soirees held by The Stratford Summer Music in a number of restaurants featuring with performances by musical artists from The Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music will continue. As will the Stratford Shakespeare Festival's opening of the Costume Warehouse on Saturday, March 29th and the special exhibition of design maquettes for its upcoming 2008 season from Cabaret to Hamlet.
