Military Sea Services to Present New Maritime Strategy to Denver Community on March 27th

DENVER, March 25 PRNewswire-USNewswire — Senior Officers from the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard will present the new maritime strategy known as "A Cooperative Strategy for 21st Century Seapower" to more than 180 of Denver's business and community leaders at the Marriott City Center on March 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (MST). They will discuss how U.S. seapower directly benefits the people and economy of Denver and maintains the American way of life.

U.S. Navy Admiral Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), will offer a keynote address at 12:00 p.m. (MST), followed by questions and answers. The CNO is the top uniformed Navy officer.

The Denver event is the next in a series of national "Conversations with the Country," that bring together a cross-section of American society to openly discuss the future roles of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard in protecting the homeland and working with global partners to prevent war. The new U.S. maritime strategy recognizes the economic links of the global system and how any disruption due to regional crises — manmade or natural — can adversely impact the economy and quality of life in cities like Denver. Because the Rocky Mountain region's economy is so directly linked to the continued safe passage of seaborne trade, this new strategy is integral and indispensable to Colorado's way of life.

The new strategy provides for the right balance of forces to conduct traditional combat missions, but also raises the prevention of war to a level equal to the conduct of war. It will apply maritime power to the crucial responsibility of protecting U.S. vital interests in an increasingly interconnected and uncertain world.

Senior Officials participating in this program include:

— Navy Vice Adm. John Morgan, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information, Plans and Strategy

— Coast Guard Vice Adm. Robert J. Papp, Chief of Staff, U.S. Coast Guard

— Marine Maj. Gen. James L. Williams, Commanding General, 4th Marine Division

— Navy Capt. Dan Cloyd, Director, Navy Strategic Actions Group
