Chicago Magazine Looks at the City's Salaries
CHICAGO, March 17 PRNewswire — Chicago magazine, the largest city monthly in the country, is naming names and listing the salaries of more than 250 Chicago-area sports figures, business people, government workers, creative types and more. The April issue, set to hit newsstands on Thursday, will feature Chicago icon Michael Jordan, who earned $31 million last year, as well as other Chicagoans from all levels and sectors of the workforce.
"People want to see how his or her paycheck stacks up, so we're giving them the chance to do that without having to ask those invasive questions themselves," said Graham Meyer, the Chicago magazine editor who put together the feature.
Chicago magazine used public records and news reports to compile the most comprehensive list possible.
"We scoured SEC documents, made Freedom of Information Act requests and contacted interesting people to see if they'd tell us what they made," said Meyer. "We had a large number of rejections in those calls and emails, but we also got a lot of interesting responses."
Elsewhere in the April issue of Chicago: — Green Awards: Meet five Chicagoans whose efforts to make Chicago more environmentally friendly earned them the magazine's second annual Green Award — American Gigolo: Get to know Johnny Stompanato, a Woodstock, Illinois native who ended up at the heart of one of Hollywood's most notorious scandals.
Chicago editor Richard Babcock and other members of the magazine staff are available for on-air interviews about stories in the April issue. Contact Kevin Riordan at 312-222-3917 to schedule an interview.
