Zeta Interactive's RelevantNoise(TM) Technology Tracks Public Reaction to Spitzer Resignation Over the Social Media Landscape

NEW YORK, March 13 PRNewswire — Bloggers and social media enthusiasts on the Internet have weighed in on the recent Eliot Spitzer debacle, and the response is not good. While buzz on Spitzer has skyrocketed this week, the vast majority of bloggers and social media influencers have posted overwhelmingly negative opinions about the former governor.

According to RelevantNoise(TM), Zeta Interactive's technology that mines the Internet's social media landscape — including over 70 million blogs, as well as Consumer Generated Media (CGM) — the volume of posts on the Internet regarding Spitzer rose roughly 4,700 percent since news broke Monday of his alleged involvement in a federal investigation of a prostitution ring. To put it into perspective, from March 1st through March 9th, there were only 104 social media posts in total on the Internet regarding the former New York Governor, while the number of posts from March 10th through today are well over 4,980.

From yesterday's posts alone, 66 percent were determined to be negative, with 27 percent writing about his resignation, and 6 percent associating the term "hypocrisy" or "hypocrite" when mentioning Spitzer. Among those bloggers focusing on the former governor and whose gender is identifiable, 54 percent were male. Of those discussing Spitzer's family, slightly over half (51 percent) were female.

"Searching on public reaction to important news stories such as the Spitzer scandal illustrates the immediate value of blog mining intelligence and analysis," said Al DiGuido, CEO of Zeta Interactive. "As a major brand, having up-to-the-minute intelligence of people's perceptions as well as the ability to strategically organize these perceptions based on any number of factors from gender to tone is invaluable in today's business environment.
