SRS Audio Technologies Licensed by STMicroelectronics for Implementation on Nomadik(R) Platform Designed for Mobile Phones

SANTA ANA, Calif., Feb. 11 PRNewswire-FirstCall — SRS Labs, Inc. (Nasdaq: SRSL), a leading provider of surround sound, audio enhancement and voice processing technologies, announced today that STMicroelectronics has licensed SRS Mobile HD(TM), a complete suite of audio rendering technologies, for use in STMicroelectronics' Nomadik(R) family of multimedia processor chips that enable mobile telecommunication devices to play music, record video and host 2-way video communication in real time.

As the mobile smartphone market continues to grow, embedded solutions that improve audio performance are in great demand. STMicroelectronics selected SRS Labs' feature-rich signal processing technology, SRS Mobile HD, because of its ability to significantly improve the audio entertainment experience from portable devices with multimedia capabilities.

SRS Mobile HD brings home-theater surround sound to portable devices. SRS Mobile HD is a full audio rendering solution that enables portable products, such as smartphones and media players, to take advantage of the exploding mobile TV market by providing a personal 5.1 experience over headphones. Users experience multichannel videos as they were originally intended, in surround sound! For stereo music files, SRS Mobile HD utilizes another patented technology from SRS Labs, SRS WOW HD(TM), to greatly improve the quality of audio by expanding the image size in an immersive 3D sound stage, creating deep, rich bass response, providing realistic clarity to high frequencies, and improving dialog clarity.

Nomadik application processors offer hardware manufacturers several competitive advantages, such as ultra-low power consumption for longer battery life, pre-integrated and validated platforms and true multi-core distributed architecture. The addition of SRS Mobile HD will ensure a high quality audio performance on devices that employ the Nomadik chip.
