Famed Attorney Willie Gary Files $10.6 Billion in Lawsuits against Big Tobacco Companies on Behalf of Florida Smokers and their Families

STUART, Fla., Jan. 10 PRNewswire — Prominent trial attorney, Willie Gary, along with partners, CK Hoffler, Donald Watson and team of the Florida- based law firm of Gary, Williams, Finney, Lewis, Watson and Sperando, P.L. announced today that the firm will be representing hundreds of Florida smokers and their families in major lawsuits against big tobacco companies. The lawsuits were filed throughout the state after a record number of claimants turned to Gary for expertise and advice in seeking legal redress in their individual tobacco cases.

The lawsuits contend that Florida smokers were victims of an industry-wide plot to cover up the deadly effects of smoking cigarettes. Furthermore, the suit argues that Florida smokers, in many instances, were addicted to nicotine and unable to quit smoking. As a result, the smokers developed various cancers and other smoking-related illnesses such as Emphysema and cardiovascular disease.

"Many Florida residents and their families have been negatively affected and suffered undue hardship because tobacco companies such as Phillip Morris, R.J. Reynolds, Liggett Group and others have purposely concealed health risks associated with smoking. These companies have been misleading people for years and in some cases, have even manipulated the nicotine content in the cigarettes," stated Gary. "Too many people have lost loved ones due to this negligent behavior. The quality of life for our clients has been compromised. This is absurd and we seek justice! It is our sincere hope that these tobacco companies will do the right thing and bring resolve to the many families who were harmed," continued Gary.

Gary is no stranger to seeking justice. He is noted for winning a $240 million jury verdict in Orlando, Florida against the Walt Disney Corporation for his clients who alleged Disney stole their idea for a sports theme park. Also, Gary was awarded $18.28 million against the media conglomerate Gannett Company for the false portrayal of their client in a series of newspaper articles. In 2001, a jury awarded Gary a $139.6 million verdict for the Maris Distributing Company against Anheuser Busch. In addition, Gary was given a half-billion dollar verdict in Jackson, Mississippi against the Loewen Group, a large Canadian funeral home chain.
