$50,000 Kairos Prize Opens its Doors
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 20 PRNewswire — Submissions are being accepted for the Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays (sponsored by the John Templeton Foundation) for its annual scriptwriting competition according to Movieguide. For this year's contest, entrants that have previously earned less than $5,000 will be accepted, where before entrants must not have earned any income.
Now in its third year, the Kairos Prize awards $50,000 between the top three screenplays that are wholesome, uplifting and inspirational, and which result in a greater increase in either man's love for or understanding of the "one true creator God." Appropriate themes would be those that are redemptive, have a heightened quality of devotion and love, and communicate that humanity can have a relationship with God.
In addition to the monetary prizes for the top three winners, their names and scripts will be announced at the 16th Annual Movieguide(R) Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry in February of 2008, attended by more than 200 top executives, filmmakers and celebrities. More information and submission guidelines are available at http://www.kairosprize.com. The deadline for early entries is Nov. 2; the late deadline is Dec. 7. Semi-finalists will be notified by late January 2008.
Previous winners have seen their screenplays reviewed and considered by key Hollywood decision makers, including Disney's Dick Cook and DreamWorks' Jeffrey Katzenberg.
The Kairos Prize was established as a result of Sir John Templeton's long-held belief that the media — and specifically the entertainment media — plays a role in how individuals form their ideas about morality and spirituality. He determined that individuals and companies should be encouraged to produce entertainment with positive messages about faith and values.
The John Templeton Foundation was established in 1987 by renowned international investor Sir John Templeton to encourage a fresh appreciation of the critical importance — for all peoples and cultures — of the moral and spiritual dimensions of life.
The Christian Film & Television Commission(TM) is dedicated to redeeming the values of the mass media according to biblical principles. More information can be found at http://www.movieguide.org.
