Greater Cleveland Partnership to Champion Medical Mart

CLEVELAND, July 6 PRNewswire-USNewswire — The Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP), and GCP chairman Frederick R. Nance, at the request of Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and President of the Cuyahoga County Board of Commissioners Tim Hagan, will play the lead role in efforts to bring a Medical Mart to downtown Cleveland.

Citing the job creation potential and the opportunity to grow on one of the region's most well-known strengths, the GCP executive committee approved the involvement of GCP in securing a Medical Mart. GCP will help complete the business plan for the project, including costs estimates, revenue assumptions and optimal site selection of the facilities; facilitate an agreement between a local developer and Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. of Chicago (MMPI); and spearhead a campaign to generate support for the project.

He also voluntarily led the effort on behalf of the GCP that resulted in saving 1,100 Defense Finance and Accounting Service jobs in downtown Cleveland.

"Without a doubt, Fred Nance is one of the best negotiators in the country and he's the best person to handle this opportunity," said Joe Roman, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Cleveland Partnership. "Time and again I've seen Fred beat the odds and construct deals that benefit Northeast Ohio. The Medical Mart is a great opportunity and I'm certain Fred will represent the best interests of region's economy in striking a deal that will bring the Medical Mart to downtown Cleveland."

GCP is working with the region's leading hospitals and healthcare systems, as well as the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland, the City of Cleveland, NorTech, BioEnterprise, union leadership, representatives from Cleveland's medical device companies, and others to build community support for the Medical Mart.
