Karl Rove and Senator Max Cleland to Face-Off Next Week at Annual Insurance Industry Meeting in Philadelphia

RESTON, Va.-(Business Wire)-October 4, 2008 - NAVA, Inc., the Association for Insured Retirement Solutions, today announced that its upcoming Annual Meeting will feature a no-holds-barred debate on the country’s current financial, economic and political issues by two of the nation’s top strategists and thought leaders: Karl Rove, former Deputy Chief of Staff for President George W. Bush, and Max Cleland, former Democratic Senator from Georgia.

These two dynamic speakers and political opposites will debate on Monday, October 6, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern, at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown in Philadelphia, Pa., at the annual trade association meeting of the nation’s top insurance carriers, distributors and financial advisors. Appearing at a time when the nation is facing unprecedented financial and economic challenges expected to have a far-reaching impact from Wall Street to Main Street, Rove and Cleland will weigh in on the most pressing issues of the day, including:

“In this period of unparalleled national uncertainty and fear about the global financial markets, many Americans are understandably worried about their futures, particularly those nearing retirement who are concerned that the current financial turmoil may wreak havoc on their retirement plans,†said Cathy Weatherford, president and CEO of NAVA. “A variable annuity, which can provide insurance guarantees to protect assets from market downturns, may be an increasingly attractive option for a growing number of Americans planning for or living in retirement. Only these unique insurance guarantees can provide the peace of mind necessary for many to stay invested in the market for as long as they need to, knowing that their principal is protected regardless of market performance.â€

“I’m delighted to have these two distinguished speakers, Karl Rove and Max Cleland, share their insight on the current national financial challenges with our members. I believe that their unique backgrounds and vast experience will help the insurance industry better understand, anticipate and respond to current and future financial challenges,†added Weatherford.

The NAVA Annual Meeting brings together the nation’s insurance carriers, distributors and financial advisors that develop and market annuity and variable life financial products. NAVA addresses the need and importance of retirement income preparation and management for retirement-focused Americans, and provides educational and informational resources to its members and the public. NAVA also helps protect consumers by encouraging adherence to the highest ethical standards by insurers, distributors and all other participants in its diverse industry. An annuity is a long-term retirement vehicle offering a combination of insurance benefits, tax-deferred savings and guaranteed lifetime income payments. Variable annuities allow individuals to invest in a variety of underlying fixed and equity funds, and provide returns based on the performance of these funds. Valuable annuity insurance features include beneficiary protection in the form of the guaranteed minimum death benefit, and living benefits which protect against downside market risk. A variable annuity also offers the ability to convert retirement savings into a steady “paycheck†for life, similar to pension plan payments.
