Wellogic Congratulates MedVirginia and CareSpark on Their Successful Demonstration of the Nationwide Health Information Network Project
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-(Business Wire)-October 3, 2008 - Wellogic congratulates its clients, MedVirginia and CareSpark, on their successful demonstrations of the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) at the American Health Information Community meeting, held last week in Washington, DC. Utilizing their experience with operating a community-wide clinical information exchange system, MedVirginia and CareSpark each effectively demonstrated the core services that shape the scope of the NHIN. Both organizations, using solutions developed by Wellogic, successfully demonstrated their ability to work in a cooperative interoperability-testing event and to provide real time information exchange based upon the NHIN Health Information Exchange specifications. NHIN was designed to provide a nationally secure, interoperable health information infrastructure that connects providers, consumers and medical staff.
Three unique scenarios were demonstrated during the public presentation – locate patient information and request and display a patient summary residing in another health information exchange (HIE); allow a patient to opt-out of health information exchange based on patient consent policies; and respond to document queries from another application (in this example, the Social Security Administration).
“This significant milestone proved that disparate health systems can securely connect and exchange health information in order to enhance the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of healthcare to patients across geographic and organizational boundaries,†emphasized Michael Matthews, CEO of MedVirginia. “We could not have done this without the support of our partners, and Wellogic’s experience, expertise and commitment have been invaluable to MedVirginia and this initiative.â€
Liesa Jenkins, CEO for CareSpark, said, “Interoperability is an attainable goal, provided that there is a commitment to standards and collaboration. We appreciate Wellogic’s contributions to our region’s ability to participate in this important nationwide effort.â€
“Wellogic is excited to be working with the preeminent HIEs in the country on this project and we are proud of the accomplishments we have achieved together,†said Sumit Nagpal, President and CEO of Wellogic. “These NHIN demonstrations prove that the goal of obtaining a secure, interoperable HIE infrastructure is attainable on a national scale. There is still a lot of work to be done as the standards continue to evolve, but we are well on the way. Wellogic is committed to continuing our leadership role in the development and support of these emerging standards and to helping our clients realize the full potential of their health information exchanges.â€
CareSpark and MedVirginia are true leaders in the healthcare industry and their revolutionary progress paves the way to the transformations that are yet to come.
