NexTier Bank Distributes Funds to Benefit Educational Organizations in Western Pennsylvania

PITTSBURGH-(Business Wire)-October 3, 2008 - NexTier Bank recently distributed $200,000 among seven educational organizations in western Pennsylvania through the 2008 Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) program, an initiative of the PA Department of Community and Economic Development. NexTier also contributed $200,000 through the EITC program last year.

“Tapping into this program to provide funds that benefit children’s causes and education is an important part of our mission,†said Margaret Irvine Weir, NexTier Bank President. “We believe that when we support education, including financial education, we can make a contribution to healthy communities and a healthier economy.â€

The state enacted the EITC program in 2001, and it allows eligible businesses to support education in Pennsylvania by making donations to recipient organizations chosen from Commonwealth-approved lists. Businesses apply the credits against their tax liability for the tax year in which they make the contribution.

Organizations receiving NexTier’s 2008 funds include:

Member FDIC. Equal Housing Lender.
