Glowpoint Supports Customers in Carbon Footprint Reduction Efforts

HILLSIDE, N.J.-(Business Wire)-October 2, 2008 - Glowpoint, Inc. (OTC:GLOW), a premiere, broadcast-quality, IP-based managed video service provider, announced that a recognized leader in the environmental field, the Sierra Club, has expanded its use of video conferencing to include applications that help reduce its carbon footprint. Video conferencing has been identified as a key tool that this environmentally responsible organization has implemented to reduce travel, improve productivity and reflect its objective of introducing environmentally friendly technologies into its organizational practices.

Michael Brandofino, Glowpoint’s CEO, will participate in a panel presented by Cisco on Going Green with Advanced Collaboration Solutions during COMPTEL in Orlando at the World Center Marriott next week. This panel will be on October 7, 2008 9:00-9:50 am. In this session, attendees will learn about collaborative technology solutions that help businesses manage their environmental impact.

The Sierra Club has a mission to preserve, protect, and restore the natural world. The Sierra Club uses videoconferencing as a productivity tool and as a means for reducing the carbon footprint from its operations. “We’ve begun using the Glowpoint solutions for communications between our offices in San Francisco and Washington, DC,†said Dave Simon, the Sierra Club’s IT Director. “It has increased the effectiveness of meetings between staff in both locations. We expect it to reduce numerous trips each year, especially when our Washington staff would normally have to travel to San Francisco to make presentations at our board meetings.â€

One of the critical environmental challenges facing the world today is how to combat global warming, which is attributed in part to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. While there are many factors that contribute to an increase in the atmosphere’s carbon dioxide levels, air and mobile travel is a major factor and is one of the leading causes of CO2 emissions. Reducing corporate travel is one of the most effective ways to decrease a company’s carbon footprint, or the measure of the impact its activities have on the environment. Because of this crisis, many businesses, large and small, have initiatives in place to help reduce CO2 emissions and positively impact the environment by decreasing unnecessary travel while offering efficient and valuable telecommuting options to reduce their carbon footprint.

“We are proud that this well-known and respected environmental organization has chosen Glowpoint to help them make a difference for the environment,†said Mike Brandofino. “Increasing the use of technologies, combined with the right Glowpoint services and solutions is a simple way for companies to begin reducing their carbon footprint while simultaneously improving productivity and efficiency.â€

Market research firm Fuji-Keizai U.S.A. Inc. published a study earlier this year stating that the global market for green technology products and services is at $284 billion and is projected to surpass $1.3 trillion in 2017. Mr. Brandofino added, “We expect the demand for our managed services for video conferencing and Telepresence to continue as gas prices rise, the cost of conducting business continues to rise, and ultimately the focus increases to answer how to conduct business in an affordable, efficient and environmentally friendly manner.â€
