Oncor Brings Energy Efficiency Bingo to the State Fair
DALLAS-(Business Wire)-October 2, 2008 - Oncor’s Take a Load Off, TexasSM program is putting a new twist on an old favorite at the State Fair of Texas with Energy Efficiency Booth Bingo, which will give fair-goers on Senior Days the opportunity to learn steps they can take to make their homes more energy efficient.
The Take a Load Off, Texas Energy Efficiency booth includes interactive stations for insulation, weather-stripping, ENERGY STAR® windows and duct-sealing. By visiting every station at the booth on Thursdays during the fair, players will win a prize that will help them to make their homes more energy efficient. The exhibits are located in the Coliseum building.
Booth Bingo will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, 9 and 16. The entire Take a Load Off, Texas exhibit will be on display daily through Oct. 17. The stations include:
- Caulking and Weather-stripping: Fair-goers will learn what to look for when purchasing a new door, as well as how to caulk and weather-strip to prevent leakage.
- Window: Visitors will learn how to choose the most energy-efficient windows for their homes.
- Insulation: Consumers will see how the proper insulation can reduce heating and cooling needs up to 30 percent.
- Ductwork: Consumers will learn the top three signs that ducts are not performing correctly.
- Children’s area: Energy efficiency-themed coloring books and crayons will be available for children, as well as an area for kids to learn about energy efficiency in their own pint-size house.
Oncor’s Take A Load Off, Texas program encourages residential consumers to take steps to become energy efficient. By helping to “take a load off” energy use statewide, consumers can lower their energy costs, reduce demand on the power grid and help make a brighter energy future for the state of Texas. The Take A Load Off, Texas tour has attracted more than 4,000 visitors so far this year.
Since 2002, Oncor has spent $245 million on energy efficiency efforts, that helped more than 300,000 consumers and saved 1,284,000 megawatt hours of electricity – enough electricity to run more than 75,500 homes for a year. More than 100 service providers across the state participate in Oncor programs and are paid incentives to achieve real, verifiable energy savings through Oncor-sponsored programs.
