Premium Luxury Brands Choose The Streets of Buckhead for Global Expansion
ATLANTA-(Business Wire)-September 25, 2008 - The Streets of Buckhead, opening in fall of 2009, will offer a unique storefront shopping experience featuring an unsurpassed offering of luxury boutiques, as well as world-class dining and residences. The exclusive lineup of merchants includes Hermes, Bottega Veneta, Oscar de la Renta, Etro, John Lobb, Loro Piana, Vilebrequin, Domenico Vacca and Optical Shops of Aspen, among many others. The project is the vision of Ben Carter, a developer best known as the force behind the Mall of Georgia, but who grew up in Buckhead, an affluent neighborhood in Atlanta.
The Streets of Buckhead, which will feature over 500,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, is resurrecting the site of the original Buckhead Village in Atlanta, which decades ago, featured a town square with local merchants and residences. Much like the original, The Streets of Buckhead experience extends beyond the retailers to residences, hotels and restaurants, like the New York mainstays Japonais and La Goulue. In addition to luxury boutiques, Ben Carter Properties projects 14 fine-dining restaurants, and several hundred residential units as well as the addition of one or more premium hotels over the course of the project.
“For decades, Madison and Fifth Avenues in New York and The Magnificent Mile in Chicago have offered world-class storefront shopping and dining for the discriminating consumer. The Streets of Buckhead offers many of those same luxury retailers, as well as luxury amenities and services in a street-level, open-air environment to create a truly unique experience for the sophisticated customer,†said Carter. “The Streets of Buckhead will not only be the premier shopping choice for area residents, it will be a leading luxury destination for affluent national and international travelers.â€
The architecture for the retail streetscapes and high-rises employs the use of stately columns and grand porticos, reflective of the Neo-classical style of architecture. Other parts of the development employ touches similar to the industrial-era buildings of New York’s Soho district, with iron detailing and a great use of glass. The design styles mesh to create a rich, historically inspired architectural framework, the perfect backdrop for the luxury boutiques and restaurants at The Streets of Buckhead.
The most recent retail and restaurant additions to The Streets of Buckhead include:
- Van Cleef & Arpels – Founded in 1906 by Alfred Van Cleef and his brothers-in-law Charles and Julien Arpels on the Place Vendome in Paris, Van Cleef & Arpels has a long and storied history as one of the world's most celebrated jewelers. In its first Atlanta store, Van Cleef & Arpels will occupy 3,200 square feet.
- Brunello Cucinelli – Fine luxury cashmere and knitwear for men and women, the 1,734 square foot boutique will be adjacent to other already-committed retailers including Bottega Veneta and Oscar de la Renta.
- Bonpoint – The French fashion house will offer luxury fashion for babies and children, including girls’ blouses, skirts, dresses and totes, and boys’ blazers, sweaters and slacks in 1,100 square foot space.

- Christofle – Based in Paris and founded in the 19th century, Christofle is a symbol of luxury and elegance. The 1,500 square foot boutique will carry an exquisite collection of jewelry for men, women and children; home accents such as picture frames, candelabras and desk accessories; flatware; and other collectibles and gift items.
- Arthur – The French chic homewear and beachwear boutique will offer pajamas, robes, socks and other clothing items associated with comfort and relaxation for the family, alongside a beach collection which includes swimsuits, beach robes, beach dresses and linen apparel.
- Le Colonial Restaurant – This extraordinary restaurant, with locations in Chicago, New York and other cities, entices guests with its authentic Vietnamese cuisine served in a Colonial French-Indochine setting, offering the essence and romance of Southeast Asia circa the 1920s.
“With these new additions, and all of our previously announced retailers, The Streets of Buckhead will provide shopping opportunities that are unmatched in Atlanta or the region,†said Carter. “As one of the wealthiest areas of the country, Buckhead residents should be able to shop for luxury goods without traveling to other cities. The Streets of Buckhead will give millions of visitors to Atlanta each year access to luxury brands that are available in only a few select places around the world. I couldn’t be more excited about sharing these brands with the residents and visitors of Atlanta.â€
