Inconvenient Youth Tours the U.S. to Raise Awareness of Global Warming
SACRAMENTO, Calif.-(Business Wire)-September 24, 2008 - Inconvenient Youth, a non-profit, non-partisan network for and by teens, is touring 36 cities in the United States with Buena Vista Records artists KSM to raise awareness of global warming. Today, more than 1,000 inner-city youth will attend an Inconvenient Youth presentation and enjoy a KSM performance at Hiram Johnson High School in Sacramento.
“By becoming a member of Inconvenient Youth, teens can learn how to effectively educate others about global warming,†said Inconvenient Youth founder Mary Doerr, a high school senior. “With this tour we hope to inspire and motivate young people to rally their peers and hometown communities to fight climate change. It’s been amazing to see such a strong reception to our efforts so far, and we’ve only just begun.â€
Working with Disney and KSM, the Inconvenient Youth tour route will align closely with the tour schedule of the 2008 Tour of Gymnastics Superstars, a sports and music event featuring the country’s most celebrated gymnasts and some of Disney’s hottest young recording artists. KSM will perform as part of the 2008 Tour of Gymnastics Superstars, and Inconvenient Youth will also be on site to provide information about global warming and give youth the opportunity to sign up for network membership. In addition to the activities with the 2008 Tour of Gymnastics Superstars, the Inconvenient Youth tour with KSM will visit local secondary schools and select additional cities where young people will receive the presentation and enjoy a live performance by KSM.
Catering directly to its tech-savvy audience, youth attendees at all of the Inconvenient Youth tour stops, both concert venues and schools, can register for the network by visiting the Inconvenient Youth Web site or texting “EARTH†to 626269 on their mobile phones (1).

Inconvenient Youth was founded and is driven by a team of four teenagers based in Menlo Park, Calif. The non-profit network trains teens to teach a youth-focused version of the “An Inconvenient Truth†presentation originally created by former United States Vice President Al Gore. The Inconvenient Youth tour with KSM began on Sunday, September 21, at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. KSM is an all-female teen quintet that debuted on the Walt Disney Records CD compilation, Disney Girlz Rock 2, released September 9, 2008. KSM recorded the tour's theme song, “Hero in You,†a new pop/rock anthem written and produced by Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil of “High School Musical†fame. KSM’s debut album is set for release on Buena Vista Records in early 2009. The five members of KSM – Shelby (15), Shae (17), Sophia (17), Katie (15) and Katelyn (17) – have all received the Inconvenient Youth training.
