Daon Plays Key Role in Maritime Credentialing Program

RESTON, Va.-(Business Wire)-September 24, 2008 - Daon, a global provider of identity assurance software and services, announced today that it is playing a critical role in support of Lockheed Martin and its work on the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Worker Identification Credential program (TWIC). The world’s largest maritime credentialing initiative, enrollments in the program currently exceed 500,000 at 149 port locations nationwide.

The TWIC program’s goal is to ensure that any individual who has unescorted access to secure areas of port facilities and vessels has received a thorough government background check and is not a security threat; individuals will then be issued a biometric-based credential. Daon provides the software platform for the biometrics.

According to Daon’s CEO Tom Grissen, “Our company is pleased to see the number of enrollments significantly increasing on a weekly basis. Together with our teammates, we bring a lasting commitment to the program’s mission and the success of their rapid, nationwide deployment of biometric identification cards. We believe that programs like this one will serve as a model for future security projects around the world.â€
