Verizon Wireless Expands Wireless Network to Portions of Jefferson County, Ohio, and Hancock and Brooke Counties, West Virginia

WARRENDALE, Pa.-(Business Wire)-September 4, 2008 - Verizon Wireless has extended its wireless voice and data network to portions of Jefferson County in Ohio and Hancock and Brooke counties in West Virginia, giving its customers here direct access to the nation’s most reliable wireless network. Additionally, Verizon Wireless customers in the area will have access to the company’s two prime services: BroadbandAccess and V CAST.

With BroadbandAccess, customers can download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment – the equivalent of a small PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file – in about eight seconds and upload the same-sized file in less than 13 seconds. The company’s V CAST multimedia services offer customers the ability to download full-song tracks, play cutting-edge 3D games and stream video clips straight to their phones.

The new network coverage comprises the Ohio towns of Belvedere, Bloomingdale, Rayland, Steubenville, Stratton and Wintersville, and the West Virginia towns of Bethany, Follansbee, New Manchester and Weirton. It also includes:

U.S. Route 22 from the Harrison/Jefferson county border in Ohio east to the West Virginia/Pennsylvania state line;
State Route 7 in Ohio from Stratton south to Rayland;
The Franciscan University in Steubenville;
Bethany College in Bethany.

Investing more than $9 million in this network expansion, Verizon Wireless constructed 23 new cell sites throughout the area enabling its customers living in and visiting the area to take advantage of enhanced wireless phone services while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.
