Tickets on Sale Now for the 2008 Sierra Oro Farm Trail Passport Weekend
CHICO, Calif.-(Business Wire)-September 4, 2008 - Organizers of the Sierra Oro Farm Trail announced today that tickets are now on sale for the 2008 Sierra Oro Farm Trail Passport Weekend, October 11-12, 2008. Tickets are available online at www.sierraoro.org, and at the Chico, Oroville and Paradise Chambers of Commerce Beginning September 10, 2008. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 during the Passport Weekend.
Three new Farm Trail members have joined the Sierra Oro Farm Trail, including Bertagna Son Kissed Vineyards and Gale Vineyards, both from Durham, California, and Mt. Ida Mandarin Ranch of Oroville, California. The addition of the two wineries brings the grand total to eight Butte County wineries and 19 area farms that will be open for Sierra Oro Passport Weekend.
“The Sierra Oro Farm Trail Passport Weekend is unique because all of the farms and wineries on the Sierra Oro Farm Trail map will open their doors on the same weekend,†said Heather Quilici, who co-founded the map with Jamie Johansson of Lodestar Farms. “Additionally, everyone will have something special taking place at their farm. Many of our members will be harvesting, it will be a great time to see the farmers in action.â€
New additions to the event include five “Starting Points.†Farms identified as starting points will have tickets available the weekend of the event. All patrons wishing to purchase “day of†tickets will be directed to one of these five farms:
California Harvest Shop (Chico)
Lodestar Farms (Oroville)
Chaffin Orchards (Paradise/Oroville)
Pedrozo Dairy (Orland)
Lundberg Farms (Richvale)
Slow Food Shasta Cascade has paired with Sierra Oro Farm Trail Weekend to provide lunch at two sites along the farm trail, Canyon Creek Nursery and Massa Organics. Part of Slow Food USA, Slow Food Shasta Cascade locally supports and celebrates the food traditions in the Shasta-Cascade region. Slow Food is offering a fresh and delicious lunch created by Slow Food caterers using local foods from Butte County farmers and food producers.
75 boxed lunches will be available at each site on Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12, from 11 am to 1 pm or as long as the boxes last. The cost is $11.00 and includes a bottle of water.
Wagon Wheel Market will be serving the freshly prepared made-to-order sandwiches they are known for to travelers in the Oroville area both days from 11a.m.-5p.m.
In addition to a hard copy of the map, visitors can plan their own tour by visiting www.sierraoro.org. The website includes additional details about each farm and the ability to plan your own interactive tour through Google Maps. Visitors who would like to pre-plan their tour can map a route from farm to farm directly from www.sierraoro.org without using a hard copy of the map.
The Sierra Oro Farm Trail Map and Passport Weekend destinations include 19 specialty farms:
Book Family Farm, Butte View Olive Company, California Harvest Shop, Canyon Creek Nursery, Chaffin Orchards, Feather River Alpaca Farm, Golden West Nuts, Harvest Hill Heirloom Pumpkins, Lodestar Farms, Lundberg Rice, Maisie Jane’s Sunshine Products, Massa's Organic Rice, Mt. Ida Mandarin Ranch, Mountain View Christmas Tree Farm, Noble Orchards, Ord Bend Pistachios, Pedrozo Cheese, Tri-L Mandarins and Wagon Wheel Market.
And eight wineries:
Grey Fox Winery, LaRocca Vineyards, Long Creek Winery, New Clairvaux Winery, Odyssey Winery and Vineyards, Quilici Vineyards, Bertagna Son Kissed Vineyards and Gale Vineyards.
