Intel's Ken Tallo Elected Chair of the Open SystemC Initiative

SAN JOSE, Calif.-(Business Wire)-September 4, 2008 - The Open SystemC Initiative (OSCI), an independent non-profit organization dedicated to defining and advancing SystemC™, today announced Ken Tallo as the elected Chairman, succeeding ST’s Alain Clouard. In addition, Serge Hustin of ST joined as a Director. No other changes were made to the OSCI board. The current officers are President Mike Meredith of Forte Design Systems; Executive Director Patrick Sheridan, CoWare; Secretary Paul Tauber of Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass LLP; and Treasurer Stan Krolikoski, Cadence Design Systems. Directors are Hustin; Michel Genard, Virtutech; Mark Glasser, Mentor Graphics; Nizar Romdhane, ARM; Ralph von Vignau, NXP Semiconductors; and Markus Willems, Synopsys.

Tallo, Director of Virtual Platforms within Intel’s SoC Enabling Group, stated: “OSCI continues to play an important role by bringing industry leaders and a worldwide user base together to explore common interests and develop practical solutions to benefit the overall SystemC community. I look forward to collaborating with the board and members to continue the positive work of former Chairman Alain Clouard and the momentum enjoyed by SystemC today.”

Evidence of OSCI’s success, according to Tallo, is the new TLM-2.0 standard. “TLM-2.0 addresses the real-world interoperability of transaction level models,” he said. “It helps streamline the integration of models from different suppliers without compromising their simulation speed, while allowing for continued advances in TLM performance, productivity and usability. OSCI members and SystemC users from around the world have an active role in the standardization process and are now working diligently across the ESL ecosystem to incorporate TLM-2.0.”

Adoption of SystemC is strong and continues to grow worldwide. Sixty percent of SystemC users surveyed at the most recent Design Automation Conference are already using transaction-level modeling in their designs, and more than 7,200 users have downloaded the IEEE SystemC standard in the first half of this year alone.
