Speakers Set for Growing Your Business through Social Media Seminar

ROCKVILLE, Md.-(Business Wire)-September 4, 2008 - The Tech Council of Maryland’s (TCM) MdTech Division (formally the Tech Alliance Division) announced today the speakers for their upcoming educational event Growing Your Business Through Social Media to be held September 10, 2008, at Johns Hopkins University Campus in Rockville, Maryland, from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The assembled speakers come from across the Mid-Atlantic region and each is a leading expert in the exciting and expanding field of Web 2.0 and social media.

β€œThis conference offers our members the opportunity to hear from some of the best and brightest minds in the field of social networking. They are the true pioneers in this new marketing medium,” said Rick Harris, Executive Director of TCM's MdTech Division. β€œEach speaker will present a unique perspective on how to use this new tool today as well as their thoughts on where it will go in the future.”

The keynote speaker for the event will be Jeremy Epstein from www.jer979.com. Jeremy won a Japanese β€œWebby” award for his work on the first e-mail marketing campaign conducted in Japan. He brings a wealth of experience in online marketing to the conference. Jeremy spent six years with Microsoft where he implemented many scalable community building programs and authored one of Microsoft’s most successful marketing blogs — the site received over 110,000 hits a month. Since starting his own company, he has attracted clients such as Johnson & Johnson and New York Times best-selling author, Dan Pink.

Other speakers include Tien Wong, Chief Executive Officer, Lore Systems and Opus 8, who, as a power user of both Linkedin and Facebook, will share his expertise on how to use social media in generating leads and finding new customers. Shashi Bellamkonda, a Social Media Swami and prolific blogger who works for Network Solutions, will speak on the latest trends developing in social media. I. J. Hudson, former NBC-TV4 technology reporter and current Director of Communications for Garson Claxton LLC, will speak on using social media to generate the right kind of press coverage for your company.
