A Fireman, a Student and a Bus Driver Appear on "The Big Spin(R)" Show
SACRAMENTO, Calif.-(Business Wire)-August 30, 2008 - Steve Bloch of Big Bear City has a lucky charm that he holds very dear. "Recently I won $723 playing Daily Derby and the staff at the District Office gave me a Lottery pen," said Bloch. He used the pen to fill out all the Fantasy 5 coupons he received and sure enough, he was chosen to appear on the Big Spin show. Guess which pen he used to sign the paperwork for his $20,000 prize? You guessed it, the Lottery pen. He plans to use his prize to remodel his home. The latest episode of the Big Spin show aired Saturday, August 30. The grand total won by all contestants was $182,500.
Jessie Toliver of Long Beach had a dream that she should buy her Big Spin Scratchers(R) ticket from a certain retailer, which she did. Instead of scratching it right away, she let it sit for 1 1/2 weeks until she had another dream telling her to scratch it. When she did, she uncovered "Spin-Spin-Spin" on her ticket. She plans to take care of her mother, travel and donate to the Make-A -Wish Foundation with her $20,000 prize.
Jorge Vargas of Arleta just started playing the Lottery. He turned 18 in December, the minimum age to play. But he already knows what he's doing. "Once I scratched the ticket and saw 'TV Show' three times, I knew right away what that meant," explained Vargas. What that meant was he would appear on the "The Big Spin" show to spin the largest prize wheel in the world. In fact, he would get to spin it twice. His first spin landed in the "TRIPLE" spoke and his second spin landed in the $40,000 spoke, making his grand total $120,000! Vargas plans to buy his mom a house and continue his schooling to become a veterinarian with his prize. -0- *T Winners Summary NAME CITY AMOUNT ——————————————————————————————————— Jorge Vargas Arleta $120,000 Steve Bloch Big Bear City $20,000 Jessie Toliver Long Beach $20,000 Carolyn Guidry Los Angeles $5,000 Ertha Gordon Palmdale $4,000 Heather Brown Scotts Valley $2,500 Marilyn Wilson Lancaster $2,000 James Griffin Mira Loma $2,000 John Chavarria Hayward $1,750 Brittiny Palma Long Beach $1,750 Michael Francis Santa Rosa $1,750 Christina Church Sacramento $1,750 TOTAL $182,500 *T

More than 95 cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to the community in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retail commissions. The California Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed more than $20 billion to California schools out of total sales of nearly $55 billion. Retailers benefit too, earning $3.5 billion in compensation since 1985.
