17 Fairfax County Firms Make Inc. List of Fastest-Growing U.S. Companies

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va.-(Business Wire)-August 29, 2008 - Seventeen Fairfax County companies - most in technology and professional services fields - are on Inc. magazine's 2008 list of the 500 fastest-growing companies in the nation. Fairfax County companies comprise 63 percent of the 27 firms on the list from Virginia and 38 percent of the 45 firms from the Washington, D.C., area. Eighteen Fairfax County firms made the Inc. list last year.

More companies on the 2008 list are from the Washington area than any other metropolitan area. Among states, Virginia ranked fifth on the list. Fairfax County, which Time magazine called "one of the great economic success stories of our time," has the same number of firms on the list as the state of Maryland. The rankings are in the September issue of Inc.

"The Washington metropolitan area again leads the nation in business growth, and a U.S. Labor Department study in 2007 noted that Fairfax County is the private-sector jobs leader in the region. We believe our companies are the best of the best," said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA). "These companies are part of a dynamic economy and business community that bolsters the quality of life for everyone who lives here."

Business growth helps Fairfax County fund programs, such as the nation's top-rated school system and public safety, library, park and human services, which contribute to the quality of life of its residents. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, and a well-educated workforce.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA's Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors. Another program supports the growth of minority and woman-owned businesses. The FCEDA maintains worldwide marketing offices in San Francisco, Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
