Zazzle's(R) Custom Shoe Offering Debuts with Strong Response
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.-(Business Wire)-August 13, 2008 - Zazzle (www.Zazzle.com), the only on-demand retail platform for consumers and major brands, today announced that - just one week after launch - consumer interest for their custom shoe offering (www.zazzle.com/shoes) has been incredibly strong. Since launch, over 30,000 user-generated designs have been created and made available for purchase and further customization - with the number of designs growing at an accelerating pace.
"We have an incredibly diverse and talented community of designers, and had high hopes that the opportunity to create custom shoes would get them excited," said Jeff Beaver, co-founder and chief product officer, Zazzle. "We've simply been blown away by the response, both the volume and variety of user-generated designs have exceeded our expectations. Some of the most popular themes include art, music, animals and politics, but you can already find pretty much anything. Developers are also taking advantage of the platform - within 48 hours after launch, one blogger created a Google Maps mashup so that you can get a map or satellite photo of your hometown on your new kicks."
Zazzle's custom shoe platform is the first fully customizable shoe with user-generated content, allowing users to design and select colors for the entire shoe. Consumers are able to create unique custom canvas shoes by uploading their own designs, patterns, illustrations, images and text, and then preview their shoes instantly. Users can also embellish their shoe designs with preset colors and patterns. The shoes are embellished and assembled from scratch within 24 to 48 hours, which enables consumers to receive their shoes in one to two weeks, depending upon the shipping method selected.
Zazzle offers five styles of Keds canvas footwear, all fully customizable, with prices ranging from $50 to $60. The user experience is intuitive and fun to use. Consumers can choose from pre-designed templates at www.zazzle.com/shoes, or they can design their own custom shoes from scratch at www.zazzle.com/custom/shoes. Images can be uploaded instantly, and the shoes are viewable through Zazzle's innovative Realview technology with the products displayed as full 3D images allowing consumers to view all elements of the shoe as they create their design. Zazzle also enables all consumers to become shoe designers and make money by selling their unique designs in the Zazzle marketplace, instantly.
