Naturipe Berry Growers Reports Positive Economic and Environmental Impact with CHEP Pallet Pool
SALINAS, Calif.-(Business Wire)-August 6, 2008 - Naturipe Berry Growers, a leading produce company, today announced it is seeing significant benefits from the CHEP pallet pool and will continue to ship on platforms from the world's largest equipment pooling company. The company transports Naturipe-branded strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries from growing and distribution facilities in Irvine, Oxnard, Salinas, Watsonville and Santa Maria, CA on CHEP pallets. Its primary customers are supermarkets, grocery wholesalers, club stores, terminal markets and foodservice companies located across the country.
Naturipe previously used one-way pallets, but determined that this system was needlessly expensive, did not meet the requirements of customers and was not an environmentally friendly solution.
"We are determined to keep down costs and increase productivity throughout the supply chain, while constantly improving customer service. CHEP is providing us with the ideal solution to achieve these goals, and is doing it in an environmentally sustainable way," said Jeff Mink, CFO of Naturipe Berry Growers.
Based on third-party Life-Cycle Inventory Analysis findings, Naturipe Berry Growers are reducing solid waste generation by more than 1.4 million pounds per year, the equivalent of about 63 dump trucks of waste as a result of using the CHEP program as opposed to one-way wood pallets. The company is also reducing energy usage enough to power 117 homes with electricity for a year, and is contributing a 58% reduction of CO2 emissions-greenhouse gas which is the equivalent to taking more than 67 cars off the road for one year.*
"Naturipe's continued support of the CHEP pallet pool shows the strength of our value proposition for produce companies around the world along with the industry increased demand for green shipping solutions. We are committed to providing them and all of our produce customers the highest level of service and product quality," said Tim Smith, Vice President, New Business Development, CHEP USA.
